Bad Day at Black Rock

I’m sooooooooo sick of hearing the sentiment expressed that even if we did not support Barack Obama, we should still recognize what a historic moment this is and be happy for the black community that one of their own has been elected.  Considering how Obama was “elected,” there will be no singing of Kumbaya at our house, just as there was not when Bush was “elected.”

This is not a milestone of which the black community should be proud.  What Obama has done is reduce the principle which was supposed to be the basis for the entire civil rights movement to “words, just words.”  His “election” does not show that the dream of a nation in which people were not judged by the color of their skin has come true.  It just shows that he and anyone who voted for him because of the color of his skin are just as ignorant and hypocritical as the Lester Maddoxes and Orval Faubuses of the fifties and sixties, and the skinheads and neo-nazis of today.

Faces of Obama’s supporters should be red with shame that two people like Bill and Hillary Clinton were slandered with the accusation they were racists.  They should be red with shame that women and older people were so vilified by Obama and his minions.  They should be red with shame that physical intimidation and fraud were used to keep voters away from polling places, just as African Americans were kept away from lunch counters, restrooms and drinking fountains years ago.

This election proves only one thing — Obama supporters who believe having a black man as President was worth sacrificing their principles and ethics in order to achieve this goal by any means necessary have become the very thing they professed to hate.  Congratulations.

On Blaming the Women

Uppity Woman had a great rant up at her site, and this was first drafted as a comment to that post.  It turned out to be so long, however, that I hesitated to take up so much space on her site and decided instead to just make it a post here.

Uppity, you gave me a lot to think about and, as always, put into words much of what I had been feeling.  I respectfully disagree on a few points, but I have been so wrong about so much in this election that I’m not sure how much stock I put in my opinion right now.

I agree that Hillary is not to be blamed for Obama’s win, and I don’t object to her campaigning for him.  What bothers me about this is that both she and President Clinton seemed to, as Denise W. put it, go above and beyond what they needed to do, especially in the final couple of weeks of the campaign.  They lent their respectability to the little insect by doing so, and I can’t help thinking less of the two of them for that.  However, as Runa said, we really have expected too much of her.  I have watched her be criticized and blamed from the time Bill Clinton lost the bid for his second term as Governor of Arkansas (it was her fault because she had continued to use her maiden name of Rodham, and we hicks supposedly were offended by that).  That was bullshit then, and it’s bullshit now to blame her for this mess.

Another thing that really disappointed me was her inaction when Palin was being subjected to the same or possibly even worse treatment than she had to suffer.  I will never be a Democrat again because no one in the party had the courage to stand up and object when Hillary was being vilified by Obama and his slimy horde of deranged bloggers, mediawhores and various and sundry perverts and woman-haters.  Is it really too much to expect even one of them, especially the self-righteous Jimmy Carter or self-styled straight arrow Al Gore, to take just a moment and say, wait a minute, we support Senator Obama, but what is being done to Hillary Clinton is not right or decent and we do not condone it?

And similarly, I do not think it is too much to ask of her to object when Sarah Palin and Cindy McCain came in for the same treatment.  She has always been an advocate for women, and again I do understand that she could not have connected Obama with any of this by name; but in my opinion she failed herself and us by not calling attention to what was being done and pointing out how wrong and unacceptable it was.  (And John and Cindy McCain will have failed themselves and those of us who supported them if they do not strongly speak out in opposition to the current cowardly witch-hunt being waged against Palin.)

I understand that a politician’s first and foremost goal is to assure her or his own reelection, and that Hillary has probably been subjected to pressure and threats that those of us not in politics cannot even imagine.  But giving in to bullies like Obama never really gets you anything; no matter what they do to help him or how conciliatory they behave toward him, he will continue to do everything in his power to destroy her and the legacy of President Clinton just as he has always done since arriving in Washington.  He’s just a petty, vindictive little prick, and nothing they do will stop him from acting on the envy he feels for them and their intelligence and accomplishments.  And besides that, in a few months, he’ll be about as popular as Bush anyway.

I will be supporting and voting for women candidates except for those I consider collaborators in the attacks on Clinton and Palin.  I hope Claire McCaskill gets soundly defeated next election, and I will be bashing her at every opportunity.   And Blanche Lincoln, who endorsed Hillary late and appeared at that little Senatorettes for Obama presser, will never be getting another cent or vote from me.

I’ll be joining organizations that will advocate for women without sucking up to the Obamas of the world, and to hell with the others.  If the word “agenda” sounds too divisive, that’s fine with me — I’m feeling pretty damn divisive about things right now.  This go along, get along crap doesn’t seem to be working.  Everywhere — in music, movies, the so-called news, the internet, advertisements — we are constantly subjected to a barrage of words and acts demeaning to women.  It’s little wonder that girls and young women are joining in the attacks.  And if that’s not enough, there’s the problem of religions that teach and preach that women should be subservient to men.

I personally have failed to address these issues or work to remedy them way more than Hillary Clinton.  I don’t have a solution or even much of an idea where to find one.  I only know this — we now have another stolen election and a person will be in the Presidency who hates women like few I have seen before.  We can’t afford to continue to just exist comfortably in our happy little lives and not take notice or action regarding how other women are being treated, because he will be busy extending the abuse to all of us.  He has sent a loud and clear message that women are just bitches and hos, and whatever is necessary to keep us in our place is okay with him.  As I said before, I don’t have a solution, but I sure as hell am going to try to stop being part of the problem by silently putting up with things as they are.

WHAT NOW?

Now that the most sexist political campaign in the history of the United States has come to a successful conclusion, it is time to consider what lies in store for women in an Obama administration.  The signs are not good.  We now have a President-elect who has absolutely no respect for women and who has shown no compunction at using in his campaign the most vile, degrading, threatening and obscene comments, gestures and even physical attacks to destroy any woman who stands in his way.  Of course, most of those are from his enraptured followers — the Messiah for the most part just sends others out to do his dirty work.  He only has the energy to do a couple of flip-offs himself — it’s apparently tiring being so wonderful.

The Democratic Party, which prior to this election billed itself as being dedicated to women’s rights, demonstrated in every way possible what a monstrous lie that was and made Republicans look like rank amateurs in the field of keeping women second class citizens.

Perhaps the most serious issue of all, however, is that there is now no women’s movement worthy of the name.  Many of the leaders of the era in which I grew up decided this year that, rather than stand up for fair and equitable treatment of women in politics, they would just swig down the kool-aid themselves and become active participants in the outrageously false and viciously dehumanizing sliming of Sarah Palin.

Then there is the group calling themselves “third wave feminists,” whose only goal in this election seemed to be dedicating themselves to getting the lesser qualified male elected.  No slander was deemed too unworthy in pursuing this goal, no sexist comment too vile; after all, the cunt was asking for it by daring to oppose The Messiah.  I’ve got news for you, girls — you’re not the third wave; you’re just the scum left when the second wave washed back out to sea.  You’re nothing but cowards, secretly happy you’re not the ones being attacked, more than ready to help with the figurative gang-rape of another woman just as long as you’re not being victimized yourselves.  If you think giving your blessing to and participating in these unwarranted attacks on Sarah Palin is your ticket into the inner circle of acceptance, you have quite the rude awakening ahead.  You will never be anything but hos expected to cater to the wishes and whims of the bros, and frankly this is exactly what you deserve.

Women in the media — what can one really say?  From old fart Barbara Walters to the young wannabes, they were just as bad as their male counterparts.  They gave their all in holding Palin to an impossibly high standard and doing an investigation of her life that went beyond thorough right on into trivial, while holding Obama/Biden to no standard at all and refusing to investigate anything about them, no matter how important the issue.

There are a few bright spots on the horizon to give one hope.  Many women refused to participate in their own immolation and chose not to vote for Obama.  Many of these women have websites, which will be of immeasurable comfort during the trying times ahead.   The group The New Agenda is dedicating itself to keeping watch and speaking out in opposition to sexist behavior, regardless of party.

Whatever each of us chooses to do, we simply cannot stand idly by and let the behavior exhibited by Obama and his minions continue unchallenged (or we should just start sewing the burkhas now).  I will not become a Republican, but I will never go back to the Democratic Party — ever.  I will give priority to women’s rights in making my voting choices and will be participating in the attempt to elect a certain percentage of women to public office — with one caveat:  I will never vote for any woman politician who catered to Barack Obama at the expense of more qualified women candidates (yes, I am stating unequivocally  that Sarah Palin is more qualified than Barack Obama).  For the more egregious offenders in this category, I will actively work and contribute toward their defeat.  It does no good to have women in office who work against qualified women candidates, and the sooner they are replaced, the better for us all.  To all organizations who represent themselves as working for women but who supported Obama — fuck you.

I voted for John McCain and have a very favorable opinion of him, in contrast with the stereotypical views I held of him and Republicans in general at the beginning of this year.  He would have made a very fine President; and his wife Cindy, a woman who has without publicity dedicated much of her life to charitable causes, would have made one of the finest First Ladies this country has ever seen.  But it was not to be; we were outnumbered by the bigots, the greedy and the gullible, those registering and voting illegally and those who saw in Barack Obama the chance to govern after being unable to get elected themselves.   So now we will have in office as President and First Lady two of the most hateful people ever in public life.  Starting January 21, it will at least be entertaining to watch the disappointment of those who think The Messiah will at his inauguration wave his arms and all of their problems will magically disappear and be replaced by new houses, new cars, ponies, puppies, butterflies and government checks.

I won’t be joining with McCain in his call that we all come together and sing a big round of Kumbaya with The Messiah.  I’ll be busy trying to minimize the damage his term in office will do in my own life.  Financially it probably won’t be much different than under Bush — there’s a reason the same media that was so biased for Bush was also so biased for Obama, and it’s not to spread the wealth.   But the climate of hate and humiliation and violence toward women that he has so cavalierly promoted in his pursuit of higher office will be something we will all have to contend with for at least the next four years.   From the reactions of authorities to incidents of vandalism by Obamabots, I’m not sure how much help we can count on from that quarter.  Combine that with the seemingly constant ineffectuality of protective orders when dealing with “domestic” violence (how I hate that oxymoronish term), and it’s not hard to figure out that the risk of becoming a crime victim may rise markedly in the Obama-encouraged climate of rage against “uppity” or nonconforming, noncompliant women.  Our best hope (oh, the irony now represented by that word) appears to be in  developing the skills necessary to defend oneself  and being willing to use them when needed.   But even that might not be enough.   Just recently in our area, two women were beaten to death — beaten to death — and a third killed, in front of her children,  by a former boyfriend with a gun.   Nothing can guarantee a woman’s safety as long as the current climate exists.  When a class of citizens is made a target and treated as “less than” by those in power, it is a short path from words of denigration to acts of violence.

A few years ago, Tipper Gore decried the lack of civility in our nation.  One of my least favorite ex-senators, John Danforth, after a tiring round of ripping Anita Hill to shreds, wrote a guest editorial for the Kansas City Star bemoaning the politics of personal destruction.  The threatening and sexually explicit comments about Cindy McCain and Sarah Palin in this campaign have gone past either of those complaints directly into total indecency.  This is what  Obama inspires in his followers.  This is what the Democratic Party now stands for.

This cannot be tolerated.  It will be more than difficult, considering that a large percentage of women are willing participants in the hate, but we women who see the injustice in this simply must come together and organize to stop it.  We can count on no one but ourselves.  We can become a force to be reckoned with; and for the sake of our daughters and granddaughters and generations of women to come, we can delay no longer.  Talk to your friends.  Blog.  Comment on blogs.  Organize.  Join The New Agenda or another organization that is truly for the advancement and equality of women.

The most disheartening accomplishment of the Obama campaign was to make us afraid.  We were afraid to put up yard signs, afraid to put a bumper sticker on our car, afraid to go out in public wearing a t-shirt his thugs would find offensive.  I’m certainly not advocating putting our person or our property in harm’s way, but the “election” is over and they have “won.”  As with all bullies, as long as their tactics work, they will not stop.  We cannot continue to live in a society that is so hostile to the mere expression of support for one’s chosen candidate or in which politicians advocate or allow women to be victimized simply because of our gender.  We must take our power back or lose what little we have left.  We must practice and encourage opposition to any officeholder who condoned, even if only by inaction or silence, this behavior by Obama and his supporters.  The time to start is now.  I’ve drawn my line in the sand.  I’m  taking no more crap from them.  I’m donating to no more causes that will end up using the money against my interests.  I’m avoiding as much as possible spending in ways that will benefit any person or company or even any state that supported Obama.

I have no doubt that, as President,  Obama will turn out to be every bit as incompetent as we expect.  Consider the enormity of the problems this country is facing and factor in how pissed off people will be that they don’t get their “pie,” which will go instead to the crooks and thugs who catapulted Obama into office.  Inside of two months, people will be longing for the good old days of Dubya.  Come the next election, Democrats will find out about payback being a bitch.  I think she is, and not a mousy, whiny little Tina Fey bitch, but a big, bad, kick-ass Sarah Palin bitch.   And she’s wearing boots.  Get ready, boys.

The Sad, Slimy State of the Democratic Party

The Democratic Party continues its trajectory downward, casting aside its few remaining scruples and ethics, picking up speed as it descends into a pit of utterly immoral slime, once again using young children as props and pawns.  The latest Obama cult installment of lies about and attacks on Sarah Palin is in the form of a video.  Be warned to don protective gear before watching this atrocity:

http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html?playerId=videolandingpage&streamingFormat=FLASH&referralObject=3158978&referralPlaylistId=949437d0db05ed5f5b9954dc049d70b0c12f2749

I did not bother trying to find the original video on YouTube or whatever Obamabot website is showing it.  Apparently no one is willing to take credit for making the video, which is understandable.

Every statement made in the segment of the video shown on Fox News this morning is either an outright lie or something that has been taken out of context and twisted and manipulated until it is no longer recognizable.

The Democratic Consultant appearing to defend the ad, Julia Piscitelli, was not concerned about the content or that young girls were being used to spread Obama lies and propaganda — she was just thrilled that it was such an effective ad:  “It is a good ad.  It is an effective ad.  It is an effective advertisement; and that’s just the way things are played in politics, as, Andrea, I am sure you know.”

And that pretty much sums up the moral stance of the Obamacrat Party:  that’s just the way things are played in politics.  Winning is all that’s important.  Character assassination, lying, race-baiting, engendering hatred of women and older Americans, vote fraud — nothing is unacceptable if it will aid them in putting Barack Obama in the White House — Chicago-style politics at its worst.

Among all of the lies and deceits and vicious unwarranted attacks in this video, the most cynical and hypocritical is using a young girl to say:  “Please don’t undo everything they fought for.”  Obama has set back women’s rights in this country at least fifty years.  If he gets put in office, this young girl, who appears to be about 10 years old, will see the further rolling back of women’s rights under his administration to an extent she probably can’t even imagine.  What kind of woman would let her daughter be a part of such a baseless, hateful attack on another woman by wrongfully accusing Palin of doing what is actually being done by Obama?

I guess we should just be grateful, considering the current state of the Dem Party, that none of them were wearing the “cunt” t-shirt.

Ms. Piscitelli is right that it is effective, however; or at least it had an effect on how I will vote.  Before seeing this ad, I was just voting for McCain and against anyone who had been overly enthusiastic about supporting Obama; I am now going to vote against every Democrat on the ticket and will fervently wish for wholesale defeat of this party, now and forever, that has become such a disgraceful parody of itself.

A Few Thoughts on the Greedy Fatcats Welfare and Bailout Bill

I’ve been watching C-Span off and on this morning prior to the vote in the House on the Greedy Fatcats Welfare and Bailout Bill.  Several things seem obvious to me in the brief moments when I can fight off the overwhelming nausea long enough to form a thought.

First, there seems to be a common theme among remarks made by our esteemed Congresspeople:  “This is a terrible bill, I am totally against many of the provisions in this bill; but, after all, the sky is falling, so I must vote for this bill.”

Translation from Congress-speak to normal English:  “I don’t know what the hell is in this bill, or what this bill will really do; but everybody’s seriously hysterical and I’m sure not going to stick my neck out to do what’s right.  There’s an election coming up, so I’m going to do what’s really important to me — cover my ass so I can get elected again and keep those contributions coming in from the Greedy Fatcats who will end up with this 700 billion.”

Here’s another nugget I keep hearing over and over:  “Doing nothing is not an option.”

Probably true, but passing this bill is not the only alternative to doing nothing.  Every time a lengthy bill gets railroaded through in a big panic, bad things result.  After the dust clears, we then learn what the bill really contained; and things go downhill from there.  The few things we already know about the present bill include the following:  the Secretary of the Treasury has pretty much unfettered authority to buy whatever debt he wants.  A McCain appointee would be likely to exercise restraint; I don’t even want to think about what an Obama appointee would do, but neither one should be granted this much power.

Among the pork contained in this bill are provisions for rum, wooden arrows and NASCAR.  There are also provisions for things that are actually needed, such as the increase in the amount covered by the FDIC, insurance parity for mental health care, and changes re the AMT.  There is no reason Congress cannot deal with the worthy issues on their own merits, not cynically use them to blackmail or bribe passage of the present bill, which is nothing more than a reward for incompetence to the greedy vultures responsible for this crisis.  And Congress is also guilty of incompetence for not dealing with this matter back when they were first warned of the problem.

Here’s a thought, Congress.  Grow a spine.  Take the time (and it probably won’t take that much, if you just do a little actual work) to assess the problem and come up with a clean bill (no pork) that is likely to be a real solution.  This bill is not it.  The few people whom I respect for actually representing their constituents (rather than lobbyists and the big money interests these lobbyists represent) have voted against this bailout — Marcy Kaptur, Russ Feingold and Bernie Sanders.  If the sky was truly falling and this was the only way out, these three would have supported the measure.

My Congressman voted for the bill when it was previously considered.  He’ll just love this new version with all the pork — maybe he’ll even end up with some of it himself.  Here’s a nice news story on him from last year:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/16/eveningnews/main3516149.shtml

Don’t you envy me, living in the district of someone who is such a fine steward of the taxpayer’s money and the assets of this country?  Not that the Republicans deserve to be cut any slack; they ran someone even worse against him last time, and this time around he doesn’t even have an opponent.  And before you get too smug, I’ll bet a little checking into the backgrounds of your own representatives and senators will turn up something similar.

Both the legislative and executive branches of government in this country are broken, and these two branches, in collusion, have turned the Supreme Court into an institution controlled by a majority of ideologues and yes-men.  Unless we get mad enough to start paying attention to what is really happening, stop listening to the liars in the media (who have devolved into no more than a PR department for whichever candidate big money currently favors), and start voting for candidates based on merit rather than who is cool or who we want to have a beer with, we are royally screwed.
